Additional Assignments - Do these if you have forgotten your proofs.

1. Go here and check out the retouching samples. Mouse over the image to see the before and after version. There are three pages. Take a screen shot of the BEFORE version. Past it in a Photoshop document. Try to make it look like the after version. Do this to 3 files of your choice. Some will be impossible to do because you don't have the second image to use as a background. Just FYI, some of the retouched images are way over the top (over done).

Name the files 1a.jpg, 1b.jpg, 1c.jpg. Save them to a folder in your Photo folder named "Other"

2. Go here and check out the hand colored old pictures for inspiration. Open the old image file in the Photoshop sample folder. Fix and color him. Make this spectacular. You can also find it here.

3. Use this raw image of some boats as a starting point. Make it into something spectacular. Some ideas: duotone or B&W. Try making it kind of dreamy looking using dark and soft vignettes (ask me for help). Try experimenting with cropping.

Name the file boat.jpg. Save it to a folder in your Photo folder named "Other"

4. Your mission is to make a checkerboard pattern of filters on the truck (example).Open the truck file in Photoshop. Make a 1 inch grid over it using guides (example). If you haven't used guides before: have your rulers showing. With your move tool (top right) drag from the ruler into the file. Guides don't print. Go to VIEW, and be sure SNAP and SNAP TO GUIDES is selected. Drag the rectangular marquee tool over a square. Apply a filter to the square. Drag another selection over another square, repeat. Try using the artistic, sketch, and stylize filters. Remember, you are making a checkerboard pattern of filters (every other one).

It will change to an eye dropper. Click on the black or white area. Click OK. Make a new layer. Click on the foreground color swatch. Pick a hue and value. Hit OK. Go to EDIT>FILL>FOREGROUND COLOR>OK. Make another new layer. Go to SELECT >INVERSE. Now pick a different hue as a foreground color. Go to EDIT>FILL> FOREGROUND COLOR>OK. Drag the HUE slider to taste. Hit OK. Do the same with the other color layer. Try to come up with a combination you think is spectacular.
